How A Hug Saved Two Dogs From Being Euthanized

Two dogs hugging each other while behind the bars of a cage in an animal shelter.

All good stories start with a hug.

A few years ago, a heartwarming photo of two dogs hugging each other went viral on social media.

The dogs, Kala and Keira, were scheduled to be euthanized that same day at a shelter in Georgia.

However, the photo caught the attention of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, a non-profit organization that works to save animals from euthanasia.

Saved By Social Media

The organization shared the photo on its Facebook page, hoping to raise funds to save the dogs.

The post quickly went viral, with thousands of people sharing the photo and expressing their support for Kala and Keira.

Support poured in from all corners of the world. The heartwarming hug between Kala and Keira was just too sweet not to notice.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, Kala and Keira were saved from euthanasia and taken in by a foster family.

Finding Their Furever Home

The two dogs, who had bonded during their time at the shelter, spent several months in foster care before finding their forever home with two best friends, Wendy and Pam, in Pennsylvania.

“After following the story on the hugging dogs, [I] knew I just had to call,” said Wendy.

Wendy and Pam had recently lost their elderly dogs and were looking for new companions to bring into their home.

When they saw the photo of Kala and Keira hugging, they knew they had found their new pets.

“It just fell together,” Wendy explained. “We turned our tears into smiles with these two young, playful dogs.”

The two dogs have been living with Wendy and Pam ever since, and they have become beloved members of their family.

Kala and Keira quickly adapted to their new home and have continued to hug each other every day.

Wendy and Pam have even created a Facebook page for the dogs, where they post updates and pictures of the dogs hugging and playing together.

The page has gained a large following, with many people expressing their admiration for the bond between Kala and Keira.

They have also become advocates for pet adoption and have inspired many people to adopt dogs from shelters.

Wendy and Pam often take the dogs to adoption events and share their story with others, hoping to raise awareness about the importance of rescuing animals in need.

A Hug To Remember

Kala and Keira’s story is a testament to the power of social media and the kindness of strangers.

Thanks to the viral photo and the generosity of donors, these two dogs were saved from a tragic fate and found a loving home where they can continue to hug each other every day.

The Sad Reality of Overcrowded Shelters

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 390,000 dogs are euthanized in shelters each year.

As a dog lover and owner, it breaks my heart to hear this. Each year, millions of pups end up in animal shelters, hoping to find a forever home.

Sadly, not all of them are lucky enough to be adopted.

The reality is that overcrowding is one of the main reasons why dogs are euthanized in shelters.

When too many dogs are brought in, and there aren’t enough families willing to adopt, shelters become overcrowded.

The staff does their best to care for every pup, but with so many, it’s challenging to provide the attention and resources they all deserve.

It’s a difficult situation that leaves many good boys and girls without a chance at a happy life.

As someone who loves dogs, it’s painful to think about how many of these precious animals are left without a home.

That’s why it’s so important for those of us who can adopt or support shelters in any way we can.

Every little bit helps give these pups a second chance at finding the love and care they deserve.
